A two member bench with Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Ijazul Ahsan heard the petition filed by PML-Q leader, Parvaiz Elahi. During the hearing, the petitioner’s lawyer insisted that the court should initiate contempt proceedings against Aurangzeb, Sanaullah and Attaullah Tarar.
The lawyer, Faisal Fareed, also urged the court to fix the petition for hearing. Justice Ahsan responded that the plaintiff is “quoting a newspaper clipping”, and summoned the transcript of the press conference in court. The court also observed that the case would be set for hearing after the text has been submitted.
Elahi filed a petition on Tuesday in the Supreme Court urging to initiate contempt proceedings against Aurangzeb, Hamza and Sanaullah. He said that the petitioner and his allies have secured the majority to form the next government in Punjab, and appealed the court to summon alleged contemnor and award punishment to those who have violated the court directions.
He said that the respondents became restive in Punjab Assembly after losing the by-polls, and acted in a reckless, and unconstitutional way. He further emphasized that Sanaullah’s remarks “abuse, interfere and obstruct the process” of the court. He claimed the statement to be a bulwark to the implementation of the court’s order.
